Welcome to the Geomorphology and Education Laboratory

The Geomorphology and Education Laboratory at Seoul National University focuses on the study of landscape evolution processes, geomorphological classification, and geomorphological education.

Geomorphology is the study of earth surface landforms. It is a sub-discipline of physical geography, mainly composed of biogeography, climatology, hydrology, and geomorphology. The main concerns in geomorphology are the distribution patterns of surface topography and materials as well as the landform development processes. In particular, geomorphologists have explored physical landscape characteristics, paying attention to the integrity of the four major sub-disciplines of physical geography.

The Geomorphology and Education Lab is primarily interested in:

  1. Evolution of mountain geomorphology,
  2. Geomorphological classification of physical landscape,
  3. Development and application of numerical landscape evolution model,
  4. Teaching methods and materials for geomorphology education.

Our laboratory is aimed at understanding the physical landscape in Korea geomorphologically and finding out the mechanisms to change the physical landscape, eventually providing data for assessing the landscape sustainability. Our laboratory is also dedicated to developing teaching methods and materials for geomorphological education based on the most up-to-date research results.
